Mechanical Projects Officer
Our client is a public sector organisation and they are seeking an experienced Project Building Services Engineer to join their team.
Key responsibilities and duties:
Project Work:
Obtaining comprehensive client briefs and developing cost effective mechanical design solutions that reflect progressive mechanical services engineering methods in turn producing appropriate quality of documentation for the engagement of contractors for construction works
Overseeing the delivery of projects under your control, providing technical and professional advice on project planning, programming and procurement strategy as necessary to ensure that all work is in accordance with legal and statutory requirements and that timescales, costs targets, appropriate standards of quality, performance and value for money are achieved
Managing internal staff resources allocated to project work including monitoring of staff productivity to ensure that project costs are minimised and available resources are efficiently allocated whilst optimising fee income; providing technical and professional advice as appropriate. Managing external consultants included on design teams formulated for project work
Providing initial budgetary advice to clients, establishing project budgets then managing approved budgets for projects in a manner that is compliant with the financial regulations
Establishing and maintaining effective methods of communication and positive working relationships with the stakeholders and external bodies affected by or who are likely to affect project work
Managerial and Development Work:
Work with the Management team to develop, support and maintain the following activities
Personnel matters relating to staff employed within the team including management, recruitment, performance monitoring, training, disciplinary and welfare
Customer focused services, promoting the Estates Office by establishing and maintaining working relationships throughout the organisation.
"Best Value" working practices within the team - seeking continuous improvement to the services offered including: monitoring of staff productivity to ensure that project costs are minimised and available resources are efficiently allocated whilst optimising fee income;
· To develop, manage and maintain the teams Quality Assurance Manual ensuring that, through regular review and audit, all staff adhere to established systems
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate must:
· Hold a first degree in a construction engineering related discipline and be a professional member of CIBSE
· Have relevant experience in carrying out all aspects of a professional mechanical building services engineering function in relation to new build and refurbishment works, from project inception to completion
· Demonstrate a positive commitment to personal training and development including continuous professional development
Working Environment:
The successful candidates will be
· Based in an office environment but will include regular visits to other University buildings for client meetings, surveys, site visits etc including buildings off campus
· Directly responsible to the Design Services Unit Manager from whom professional, technical and policy guidance is received as necessary but with minimum supervision
· Responsible for a team of technical staff
